Emergency Medical Services Overview

The Brookline Fire Protection District provides a basic life support (BLS) non-transporting medical service, delivering critical pre-hospital care to our community. Our firefighters are extensively cross-trained, with the majority holding state-licensed Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certifications. We host an in-house EMT course to ensure our team remains well-equipped, and while some firefighters are Paramedics, there are no current plans to increase Paramedic staffing.

We respond to all medical calls within our district, which accounts for approximately 60% of our 1,200 annual incidents—around 720 medical emergencies each year. These calls range from cardiac events to trauma incidents, reflecting our comprehensive EMS focus. Our team utilizes several Lifepak 15 cardiac monitors, advanced devices that enable high-quality care through cardiac monitoring, defibrillation, and other vital functions.

Under the leadership of Medical Captain Kyler Faxon, who oversees both EMS training and operations, we conduct monthly EMS trainings for all personnel. These sessions focus on skills such as patient assessment, trauma care, and equipment use. As a state-recognized EMS training center, we offer certification courses for EMT and Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) levels, supporting our members and fostering skill development in the broader emergency services community across Greene and Christian Counties.

Our EMS operations integrate with the Community Risk Reduction (CRR) program, notably through public CPR training initiatives that empower community members to respond in emergencies. While we do not transport patients, we work closely with ambulance services to ensure seamless handoffs, maintaining our commitment to rapid and effective response.
